They spent ages trying to get him to swim with them,
giving me enough time to manage this;
alas, he wasn’t persuaded.
I’m pleased to report that while this might have disappointed
his wife and daughter, it didn’t discourage them:
after he had stomped back up the beach
they had a lovely long time in the water –
which was really warm, so he’d had no excuse.
