After some confusion over Cardiff outdoor events guidance, the traditional Marloes Sands event went ahead on New Year’s Eve – with friendly weather! Some people were put off by the 09.00 start; but you can’t change tide times. Turn-out was between 20 and 30 – impossible to be exact with instances of missed-the-alarm-clock syndrome, plus some fine folk volunteering on the spot. A few under 10s, some well into their 70s, and three who’d come from Queensland. (OK, not just for the beach clean; but hats off to anyone who flies 12,000 miles and devotes some of their UK holiday to collecting plastic.)
Estimated gather was 40 sacks equivalent: a great communal effort. By weight, no surprise, predominantly fishing gear, fish boxes, and liquid chemical containers; same for the further 10 sacks’ worth of previously-collected marine rubbish. As ever, thanks to Trehill Farm for haulage.
