I picked a huge quantity of apples on Monday and Tuesday: although they could have done with more ripening time on the trees, Storm Agnes was forecast to be very gusty; and gustiness is more important than maximum wind speed when it comes to bringing fruit down. To be fair to the Met Office, their prediction proved right; and I had just a bucket and a half of windfalls today, when otherwise there would have been barrowloads. These are some of my Adam Pearmains, mostly looking very green; but the stalks yielded readily enough. A very good flavour, and keeps extremely well.
The crates are American: one cubic foot capacity, 12″ x 12″ x 12″ – useful for moving apples around, or bringing in an evening’s worth of firewood.
