Back to School Custard 20th August 2020 Chris Jessop The School Custards of 2020 have arrived!A unique apple, grown by me from a pip (probably a Granny Smith).This one fell a bit early; properly ripe, they are pale warm yellow with a slight rose blush.Quite sweet; not a strong flavour but there’s definitely a vanilla hint, hence the name.Popular with youngsters, I reckon, because of their far better sense of taste.…Talking of “Back to School”: how we hated those shop displays which so often went up beforethe end of July, spoiling the whole morning for us.While schools are surely much nicer places these days, I still think there should bea “No more than a fortnight before” law!
