I took advantage of the low spring tide on 21st February to visit the remains of the Bristol paddle steamer Albion at (no surprises) Albion Sands, wrecked there on 18th April 1837. Sod’s Law dictated that there would be less on show than there had been on 24th January when there was a theoretically higher tide but the very high barometric pressure that day, an offshore wind, and the sand level scoured well below its usual datum meant all sorts of bits could be peered at through the water (a chilly wade in my swimmers!). Anyway, on the 21st I thought it was worth taking a few photos of the boiler remains, because the water ways could be made out quite easily; that is a standard archaeological survey pole, length 1 metre.
