I don’t have central heating, just a woodburner which I mostly feed these days with home-grown tree prunings, carpentry offcuts, bits of skip-dived pallets, etc; but in cold weather I confess to putting on a little anthracite to keep a fire in when I’m out.
I don’t like to waste any fossil fuel: I always seive the ashes, and any cinders go round again; as these are coke-like no surprise that, as with a coke fire, you get carbon monoxide flames: low in heat energy but wonderfully coloured sometimes.
I took this photo a few days ago.
