Dear Editor
Wind power benefits
Your 7th April article “Floating wind farms to expand” brought good news indeed: more British-generated clean energy and, as Blue Gem Wind said, potentially thousands of jobs for Pembrokeshire people.
So – how do we turn “potentially” into “definitely”…? With a much stronger commitment to renewable energy and green hydrogen than seen so far from Cardiff: the ambitions of Wales are completely eclipsed by those of Denmark, a comparable country.
Fully developed, continental shelf Floating Offshore Wind between Pembrokeshire, Ireland, and Cornwall could generate up to 70 Gigawatts of electricity – 35 times the output of Pembroke Power Station, but this time all zero carbon. Therefore, with Western Britain having the lion’s share of north-west Europe’s wind and marine resources, Milford Haven could become the Aberdeen of Atlantic sustainable energy, quite some prize – but do Welsh politicians realise that ports and experienced marine engineering, civil engineering, and offshore support consortia all over Europe are showing keen interest in tendering for the Celtic Sea, with consistently strong backing from their governments?
