An unusual crop for our peninsula: chicory, which has beautiful purplish flowers. A small acreage of it is growing not far west of Marloes Beacon. I painted this picture from the Beacon – the trig. point was a useful shelf for some of my gear! Photographers would call this composition a telephoto shot: the distance between the field and East Hook Farm is considerably foreshortened.
As with Corn Marigolds, I used a piece of beachcombed plywood; in case you were wondering how it would look presented conventionally, I have included a version with the bare wood border cropped out.
