Another of the oaks I’ve grown from seed has reached maturity and is producing acorns – in the case of this still quite small tree, healthy-looking big ones and plenty of them. So satisfying. I am already starting to check the acorns, and pick them if they will loosen – because I’m damned if the little b*stard grey squirrel is going to have the things!
And to think I was told by locals when I moved here that there was no point in trying to plant trees, because “they just won’t grow”.
