Thursday late afternoon, coming back from my swim, I found this stone (first two photos) fallen onto the path just above Musselwick Mouth, freshly “calved” from the very fractured outcrop. Been sitting there about 400 million years (?), and I was the first person to see it! First words of fossil: ‘What kept you?’
The third photo is of a different fossil found by a friend on another occasion.
As I understand it, the trilobites occurring in this rock bed are a unique species.
I always think they look like very small kippers!
