The green stains mark the positions of copper fastenings. The wood is so thin, I’m guessing it’s from a small clinker-built boat; thicker timber, and I would have plumped for a hull plank from a copper-sheathed vessel. Such convoluted growth usually means either tree root or ivy; this time I’m going for the latter – but if anyone knows better…
