Roman invaders 26th March 2021 Chris Jessop My barrow yesterday, stacked with Alexanders(Smyrnium olusatrum)freshly uprooted from the bank across the road, where they were threatening to choke the daffodilsplanted by the village.Introduced by the Romans, this is an edible plant –although I don’t know anyone who hastried cultivating it or,and they’d surely have to be desperate, doing anything withtough-as-old-boots wayside specimenssuch as these!
