A friend is holidaying in South West Scotland. He sent me a photograph taken in Ayr docks, which I have zoomed in on so you can truly appreciate his comment about “their sheer physical size”: when you twig that those are very large lorry tractor units, you realise that these are indeed huge turbine blades! And there are plenty of them.
They are 64m long; they are destined for the South Kyle wind farm being built by Vattenfall east of Dalmellington: a total of 50 turbines, combined installed capacity 240 MW.
Even better if they’d been UK built turbines installed by a UK owned company – but that’s British energy policy for you – or rather the lack of it!
