Yet again, our village delivers a jolly good blaze! And we had a good turnout: about 300 people. Most surprisingly we could not see any other fires from Marloes Beacon, although it offers a very fine view of a lot of West Pembrokeshire and north eastwards right into the Presceli Hills.
Yes, I did muse on how we’d probably torched enough fuel to have heated me all through next winter; but I wouldn’t have wanted those old potato chitting trays (some dating back to 1963) anywhere near my property: they were riddled with woodworm!
Yesterday’s “ash bash” gathered 10 barrowfuls; and even after a careful double shovel-scrape of the whole burn area, we needed several sweeps with a powerful salvage magnet to satisfy ourselves we’d picked up as many nails and screws as possible.
